What a fun story!!! Loved reading it and even went back and REREAD it to try to solve the mystery! I think it was that recluse C. Mrs. Kracken....she was a bit odd and the most questionable. The magician seems innocent to me and the actress...nahhh...she had the note, so I bet the recluse and Anna might just be related. Am I on to something???? You see, I would LOVE to win one of your charms, so I sure hope so!!! Happy Partying!!! xoxo
First, you are just tooooooo clever! Love everything about this...the paper, the photos, the story. One thing: I NEED MORE CLUES!!! I read and read and read... will go with C. Mrs. Kracken cuz her picture cracks me up!
Hats off to you for a fantastic party! **kisskiss** Deb
Hi: What a lovely and creative who dun it!!! I think my blog must be out of order as I cannot read all of it as it is cut off on the right side : ( I want to figure it out : ) You have a "charming" blog!!! peace carole
If you can't read it all, try stretching out the page on your computer, I pull the bottom right corner to do it on mine. Hope that helps Carole! ~Martha
Ah!! What a creative party!! I've never been too good at solving mysteries, so I don't know who did it, but I enjoyed myself all the same. Love the blog!
How intriguing! I'm going to say it was the magician, actually I think the actress was in on it with him! Thank you for a hauntingly good party!
I'm visiting from Beyond to celebrate the spookiest Halloween blog party ever! I hope you are having a fang-tastic time today! You are cordially invited to share in the celebration at my party HERE. I do hope you'll stop by!
Oh dear, I believe the magician has pulled a prank, perhaps with an accomplice - the actress! Can't wait to see more! http://autumnsantics.blogspot.com/2009/10/frightful-soiree.html ~Autumn Clark
Great post! Loved the mysterious party. Thanks for stopping by my little gathering earlier. I believe two of them are in cahoots! Maybe the fair Ms Carey and Mrs. Kracken? Best Wishes for a Hauntingly Beautiful Halloween.
A very mysterious party blog! I do love your work, very beautiful. I am going to venture my guess, Mrs. Carey the actress....she looks questionable....maybe she believed she deserved it because would match her loveliness.....
You've got some saucy guests in here! And there are secret messages I'm sure in this tale! Thank you for your hospitality! Please come visit at my party for more treats....if you haven't flown in already!
Let's see...I think it was Carey who's middle name is Anna which would make her real name Anna and her stage name Carey. The specter of course is her mother, also an actress who died in a tragic theater accident. It's such a sad story really!! I do hope Belle gets her charm back, but it's highly unlikely as Anna stole it to solve the mystery of her own mother's death.
Oh my goodness, this is just too delightful. I am going to guess that it was Mrs. Kracken. But really, I read it twice and have no good reason for that guess. Silly? Thank you for visiting my blog party. I enjoyed your so very much. Vicki
hmm hmm hmm- clever indeed! First - I was going with Bella, herself- knowing that the talented MJ would take pity on her, make her a new one- and then she would have two! hee hee- But alas- I am going to have to go with Kracken- she looks sad and bitter enough to have had a life of pain and loss, probably a daughter, now gone- that was once terribly wronged by weathly Brigsby family- sigh- probably over a fella. (It's Agatha's fault! too many of her books as a child- leaves a very overactive imagination! LOL) Happy hauntings! Tracey
Oh,I definately think it is (A)Mrs. Carey the actress. You know how those actress people can be *wink wink*. Can't wait til the crime is solved. Good luck everyone!
What a great party!! Wonderful story and an awesome mystery! Now to answer the question...who?? LOL!! I am going with the actress. Because she was jealous, don't you know. Thanks for visiting my blog and psrty and you sweet comments Hugs SueAnn
This was grand! The perfect Halloween Party Extravaganza! I think Mrs. Kracken. Well, wait! The magician doth protest too much me thinks, but the Recluse and Anna ... hmmmmmmmmm!!!
My first guess was the Magician, but it's just too obvious. Ms Carey would certainly have the most use for the charm, but she couldn't wear it without being noticed! So I will say Mrs Kracken because she will hide it away and never be caught!
I love a mystery! What a great post. Ok well now whodunnit? Hmm...Mrs. Carey likes bling obviously from her picture, so she could have done it. Mrs. Kraken wasn't wearing any...but she might have taken it for more sentimental reasons...of course Morice could have done it because magicians don't make much....tough choice!
Ok here is my theory...Mrs. Carey did it. She is actually Mrs. Kracken's niece unbeknownst to Mrs. Carey, and Mrs. Kracken wasn't surprised at all because Mrs. Carey has a well known history of kleptomania...plus she would have had better access to the stage while Morice was performing. Morice was just a victim in this and didn't do it. The ghost was Mrs. Kracken's deceased sister...and she had asked her to keep an eye on her daughter before she died. But Mrs. Kracken never told Mrs. Carey they were related because the baby was put up for adoption. So Mrs. Carey didn't know her real name was Anna...whew~
Clearly I put too much thought into this huh! *Giggles*
Oh I Love your who dun it story!!! I read it twice but still not a clue ,so my guess would have to be the sinister looking Mrs. Kracken, she does look a bit evil. Thanks for stopping by my party and good luck in my drawing !
AWWW, A mystery. I believe the culprit is.... drumroll please... Ms Carey. You see those actresses love thier baubbles. Thanks for coming by this afternoon - this day ahs been so fun! Regards, Amada
What a wonderful tale a real wodunit and you have taken so much care putting it all together, really enjoyed it , thankyou. I dont like the look of Mrs.Kraken, but she looks like she expected it to happen if people will do magic tricks type of lady, I dont think the magician did it, that would be very silly, so that leaves the actress Ms Carey (A), but I cant think why, but then an actress would be good at making up stories. Lindax thankyou for this fun post. http://pyewacketts.blogspot.com/
Once, long ago, Mrs. Kraken wasn't as reclusive as she was these days. She actually was a loving mother, enjoying her life with her husband and son. But then, one day, her husband passed away.Fortunately she still had her son, who she loved dearly. They had a good life together. Untill, he met a woman. Ofcourse she knew this could happen one day, but a woman like this? A showgirl, a girl with no decent background. She was shocked! Slowly she turned bitter. Her son, who loved his mother, but still wanted his own life, fell head over heels for the showgirl and married her. For a couple of months the mother and son didn't see eachother, until one dark night the mother received a telegram. Her son got killed in an horse riding accident, leaving his pregnant wife behind. Inmediately when mrs Kraken heard the news, she started to make plans. She didn't mourn her son, she didn't comfort his wife. All her energy was focussed to one goal: She intended to safe that innocent child, her grandchild, from a life with a tramp like that showgirl! The next couple of weeks she stayed close to her daughter-in-law, who didn't even know the woman who was following her silently, until the moment her grandchild was born. She stormed in with an excuse to the maid, grabbed the child, and ran out again, disappearing into the dark. The showgirl was heartbroken. She looked everywhere for her child, asked everyone for help, but they seemed to have vanished from the earth. The showgirl lost all will to live.. and when she realized her child would never be found again, she just layed down to die. Meanwhile mrs. Kraken realized she didn't have the means to give the child, who was named Annabelle by her mother, the life she wanted her to have. So she found some wonderful, warm people, with the right background, who wanted a child more than anything, but were not able to have children of their own. To them she gave Annabelle, making them promise to not ever tell the truth to the little girl. Years went by. Annabelle, who's name was shortened into Belle by her new parents, had a lovely childhood. Mrs. Kraken rented a little house in the village nearby, where she didn't speak to anyone and only went out occasionally to see how Belle was doing, satisfied with the relationship she could have with the girl, even when Belle saw her as just the strange neighbour. So everything seemed calm and peaceful. Until this year. People talked about strange things happening. And one evening Belle found a wonderful charm in her room. She since then wore it every day, as she did on the day of this halloween party. Now, what really happened? Mrs. Kraken saw the charm and inmediately realized where it came from. The letter A (for Annabelle ofcourse, the name Belle didn't know she had) and the letter on the other side, which she recognized as the love letter her son wrote to his showgirl, when she was away for a show in Paris, asking her to be his wife. Mrs. Kraken knew she had to make sure the charm would disapear, before Belle would open the charm, seeing the letter, ask questions, before Belle would realize who she really was. So she took the charm, tried to throw it into the fire. But the charm didn't melt. She tried to drown it into the creek next to the house. But the charm appeared back into her pocket. She tried to eat the charm, but wasn't able to swallow. So it still sat in her pocket and she felt like it was burning on her legs. And then that ghost. That cheap little showgirl, that decided she couldn't let her live in peace, even after her death and tried to spoil everything she so carefully arranged. How could she stop this from happening? How could she prevent Belle from finding out the whole truth about who she really was? Mrs. Kraken felt desperate and didn't know what to do. So she just sat there. Like paralyzed. Waiting for what would happen next. Waiting for the inevitable...
Well I LOVE your creativity and style! A Whodunnit mystery halloween blog party! Brilliant! But I must confess, I cant figure out whodunnit. I want to believe in all the excitement Ms. Belle just dropped it..but since we know she gave it to Morice, but we didnt get a definite Morice gave it back to her, I'm gonna say Morice. Definitely one of the best parties of the night [ok, the next morning, but still]!! Though I'm hesitant to blame a fellow stage player, I would have to point the finger at the actress. She was just supposed to help the magician by stealing it for a short period, and then give it back, like magic! All would be distracted by her beauty. But she found the charm too irresistible [after all, it would look best on her, right?] and so has created a fictional ghost of the recluse's mother, pointing the finger at Mrs. Kracken, whose first name is, in fact, Anna.
WEll, just guessing here, but I vote for the recluse. Hm-m-m. I doubt it was the magician - too obvious. Well, right or wrong, it was fun reading the mystery at your party!
Hi what fun, Im new here and must follow you, such a lovely original blog.If you love vintage please pop by my blog, think you might appreciate it! Sharon xx
Hah, what a fun post. I actually think it was Belle. She palmed the charm making it impossible for Morice to have it reappear. This way she can convince her father that she is so distraught over the missing charm and have him order more from Miss MJ. Thanks for the fun giveaway. Happy Haunting.
Yes, I'm a bit late since I have been trying to visit everyones Halloween party..what can I say..I am a party girl..hahahaha
I love your mystery and I say its the actress...Mrs. Kracken is too obvious and I think the magician and the actress are having an affair and want the charm...hahahaha
Good morning! I TOTALLY love your blog for one thing. And this party you are STILL hosting yet this moring?....fabulous and filled with Mystery. I vote for Mrs. Kracken...but I could be wrong. Just let me know and I will be happy to turn the thief into stone for you!
Off to mingle before heading back to the Manor to tend to my own guests that are now eating a feast of a breakfast! :)
I'm going with Morice the Magician. I believe he was the one who made the floating pen note to get the spotlight off of himself. But I also believe it was the recluse Mrs. Kracken's who gave Morice the idea! Because you see, Morice secretly has been admiring the Mrs. Carey the actress from afar for many months now...but when Mrs Kracken told Morice "without something VERY valuable to offer, the Mrs. Carey will never give you the time of day" So when Morice saw the lovely MG Ornament, he decided that was all he needed to win the heart of Mrs. Carey....
Oh Mrs. Carey for sure. My hunch is she's quietly having an affair with Morice who supplies her with her every whim....To throw suspicion off her, so she can keep the coveted charm, she's clearly invented the ghost. That's what I've had done anyway! ;)
FINALLY fell asleep at someone's party last night...so back to make rounds again today... I believe the thief was Mrs. Kracken, the recluse....fingers crossed, anyway!
Please stop by and see my creative offerings for the party...they're still up, too!
What fantastic, original blog party! I absolutely loved it! The images are great the, the mystery spooktecaular! So much fun. This is my first visit to your blog but I hope you do more of these.
Darn. I am not so great at mysteries (if I was I would probably be able to figure out my boyfriend better...hahahaha! Anywho...) I'm gonna have to go with C. Mrs. Kracken because of her questionable reaction to the whole incident. Honestly, I feel as if I was more distressed than she was...and I wasn't in the room. Or was I? Oh wait...I don't want to be a suspect! Happy Halloween...
Oh, I am so sorry that I'm late, there was just TOO Much BROOM traffic...LOL!!! Thank you so much for coming to my little shindig. I think I will stay awhile at your blog, it is so beautiful. I ADORE charms and sorry I missed the catching of the thief :0)

Oh what fun! I love a good mystery! I think it was the recluse. She realized that the charm was her sister Anna's and Belle had stolen it years ago!
I think it was that Mrs. Carey. She looks like a spitfire to me;)Thanks for the fun!

First of all, thank you so much for stopping by my blog.
I love your little mystery!
Here's my guess:
The thief is the actress, Mrs. Carey and her story about the ghost is just a cover-up. After all, she is an actress!
Happy Halloween party!

Hi, Thanks for coming to my party, Great Halloween party post! Happy Halloween to you!
Hi!
fantastic!
Happy Happy Halloween and great cute post!!!
boooo
Hello and Happy Halloween! Thanks for stopping by earlier, enjoy the rest of the party weekend!
And Mrs. Kraken wasnt surprised because she knows his reputation.
This was the best fun!
Have a Spooktacular Halloween!!
It was Mrs. Kraken for sure.
xoxox
Morice!!!Super fun!!!

What a fun story!
Love the Vintage photographs.
Happy Halloween!

Sharon xx
Great Martha!!
So sorry I missed the party!!
Happy Spooky Halloween!
Rosemary
PS, your little crown is on the way.

Martha! What a lovely post...
Carey....
Great Party. Love the mystery theme. I vote for Mrs. Kracken.
Got to fly. Hope you Halloween is Magical.
Hugs,
Penny
Oh Mrs. Carey for sure. My hunch is she's quietly having an affair with Morice who supplies her with her every whim....To throw suspicion off her, so she can keep the coveted charm, she's clearly invented the ghost. That's what I've had done anyway! ;)
Thanks for visiting my Halloween Celebration!
Happy Haunting you You,
Jamie
FINALLY fell asleep at someone's party last night...so back to make rounds again today...
I believe the thief was Mrs. Kracken, the recluse....fingers crossed, anyway!

I would have to say my one and only choice is Mrs.Carey the actress(Anna)undoubting she adores the jewels!
Happy Hauntings and a Happy Halloween Too!!!

I bet it was the magician himself ;) Trickter and all ;)
I LOVE the 1909 feeeeel of vintage hauntings!!

What fantastic, original blog party! I absolutely loved it! The images are great the, the mystery spooktecaular! So much fun. This is my first visit to your blog but I hope you do more of these.
And I think Morice the magician took it.
i loved your mystery halloween party. I think it's Morice.
